FAQ’S
I’m a terrible swimmer, how deep is the water? All Girls Tri Too events use point-to-point swim courses that are always in waist deep water - you could actually walk the swim if you wanted, that is allowed.
Can I wear a wetsuit during the swim? Yes, if the water is 78 degrees or less. Last year all swim portions of the race were wetsuit legal. Bring your wetsuit if you have one.
What is a dual time trial start? To make the swim beginner friendly we use a dual time trial start which only sends two participants in the water every 5-10 seconds. This keeps the swim very safe and a lot more fun.
How do you keep track of my time? You will be given a timing chip on an ankle band on race morning that you must wear the entire race (even in the swim) - the computers do the rest. Results start posting 15 minutes after our first finisher. Once the results are official and if you are lucky enough to be in the top three in your division you can come by the awards tent and pick up your custom Ohio Women’s Triathlon for the Cure medal.
How far is 250 yards anyway? 250 yards is about 2.5 football fields in length OR 10 lengths of a 25 yard pool.
What if I don’t know my estimated 250 yard swim time? No worries - just get in line for the start towards the end with the other ladies that may be in the same situation. Because of our unique start system it is not a problem if you are over or under your estimate swim time.
Where do we keep our bike and run gear? Everyone will be assigned a spot in the transition area. This is a fenced off area with a single entrance and exit where only participants are allowed. The transition area has bike racks for your bike and ample space for the rest of your gear.
Where do I change between events? Note: USAT Triathlons rules state there is to be no public nudity during the race. So...you may pull something over top of your swimwear or your cycling shorts but there is no place to change out of your clothes during the race AND please don’t get naked in the transition area.
Can I ride a mountain bike or cruiser bike in the race? Yes, one-speed, two-speed or 10-speed, as long as it has two wheels and you pedal it you can use it in the race.
What if I get a flat om the bike portion of the race? Triathlon is an individual sport and USA Triathlon rules state that NO outside assistance is allowed. So, you might want to learn how to change your tire. With that being said, if you do have a flat and don’t have a spare. Just wait by the road side and our sag truck will be following the last participant and will pick you.
Do I need to wear a helmet on the bike? Yes, helmets are mandatory and you will not be allowed to start the bike without one. If you forget yours on race day, check with the HFP Racing staff - we have helmets that you may borrow for the race.
Can I wear headphones during the bike and run portion of the race? NO, this is also a USA Triathlon rule and it is for your safety that this rule is in place. If you can’t hear the race officials you may go off course and put yourself in dangerous traffic.
If I’m too tired after the bike can I walk the run? Yes, you may run, walk and even crawl during the run portion of the race.
What is the number one tip you would give a first timer? Come to the course preview before all the Girls Tri Too events. You will gain lots of insightful information about the race, the courses and be able to settle your nerves by asking any questions you may have.
